Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why do we need a new name for WinMX?

WinMX will always be known as WinMX. Anything that is created out of it will have to be called something different as it will never be the same as the original. The PIE Group chooses the name MXpie to represent ourselves and our efforts to support the continuation of WinMX based software.

2. Why MXpie? What does it mean?

MX came of course from WinMX, and the PIE part actually stands for Peer Integration Exchange, hence the WinMX Community PiePatch. For familiarity we choose to carry this name forward to the website

3. Will we see a totally new client under this new name?

At present there is no active effort to do so.

4. Will we be able to download WinMX patched and ready from the new site?

Unfortunately, we do not own WinMX so therefore we do not have the right to modify it. We will provide links to mirror sites from which you can download the original WinMX software. Once the WinMX Community PiePatch is installed you will be able to connect to the WinMX network as before.

5. What about my bot, chat client, host client, and various 3rd party add-ons, MX monitor etc, will these all work?

Yes, most of them have already been modified by their respective creators or the PIE Group.

6. I've read on other sites that Operation Pie is trying to take over WinMX, is this true?

Not at all, MXpie has been created to give users a one stop shop to get their WinMX reconnected. It is also intended as the focal point of the project updates, news, and downloads.

7. If the WinMX Community PiePatch doesn't work for me, what should I do?

Let us help you!

For Immediate help getting connected go to or post your question on the forum at vladd44.com

8. I currently use the .dll patch; it seems to work ok, should I remove it?

As a user you have a choice of which patch to use. Removing it would be entirely at your discretion. There are some advantages to using the WinMX Community PiePatch however. Nothing in the patch is hidden from a user in any way. The hosts file can be opened with Notepad and the entries viewed by anyone. There are no hidden IP blocks and the WinMX software is not modified in any way.

9. Does the WinMX Community PiePatch interfere with any of my other software? If so how?

WinMX Community PiePatch does not interfere with any other software.

10. I have heard Pie is blocking secondarys from connecting, is this true? If so why?

This is false. PIE servers do not block secondary users from connecting, however due to a heavy load of secondary users on the network it may take a little longer to connect.

11. What does the new installer do and does it contain a virus?

PIE Group would never distribute a virus intentionally. Our software is well tested on many different operating systems before release. Of course there will always be a manual download version available for those who prefer it.

12. Where can I download WinMX Community PiePatch?

WinMX Community PiePatch is available form the "Download" section of this website.

13. Will MXpie ever become a pay service?

No, MXpie will never charge users for any of its services or downloads. Our services are free to all who choose to use them.
